Hear me out: If we analyze Eliza’s line as I did above, you can look at this line the exact same way

YO THIS IS SO COOL because it almost mirrors Eliza’s look around but at the same time it is the EXACT opposite. I mean, ok, the analogy kinda falls apart with Peggy, BUT if we look at Peggy as Maria Reynolds: I know you are a man of honour… / Eliza foresees the fact that Hamilton’s unwavering ambition and desire to plant the seeds of a legacy ultimately lead to his downfall The ham-macbeth analogy can be interpreted in sO MANY WAYS BONUS: here’s how i read it if we read the Schuyler Sisters as the witches who tell Macbeth the prophecies!!! ((which is from another post but lol im gonna repost it here bc i loVE TALKING ABOUT THIS))īecause the witches tell Macbeth the prophecies that ultimately lead to his downfall, we could look at each of the sisters as one of the prophecies.Īngelica: I know my sister like I know my own mind / You will never find anyone as trusting or as kind…Įliza: Look around, look around / At how lucky we are to be alive right now Lady M asks the spirits to “unsex me here”, to make her equal with men, which I think strikingly resembles Angelica’s bid for Jefferson to include women in the sequel. As much as I love Eliza, she isn’t a force to be reckoned with like her sister. But I don’t think this is to suggest Angelica is manipulative like Lady M - rather like in ‘Macbeth’ (and all of Shakespeare’s tragedies) she is possibly the sole female character in the play to have agency and power over men. Macbeth/Hamilton is starting to doubt himself and Lady M/Angelica encourage him to keep going. Of course, this all ends badly for Macbeth… and for Hamilton, let’s be honest. He doesn’t say who Lady Macbeth is… as his wife, it should be Eliza, but we all know she’s far too sweet and wonderful…īUT THEN Angelica fires a quote right back at him “ Screw your courage to the sticking place” which is LADY MACBETH’S LINE in Act 1, Scene 7:īut screw your courage to the sticking place, IPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad iPad, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 4, 9.Been thinking all day about how Hamilton quotes ‘Macbeth’ in ‘Non-Stop’ - “Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day” and then starts casting people as characters.
